Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep of India are considered to be the major groups of islands lying and in the Bay of Bengal in the Arabian Sea.

Indian island consists ofAndaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep and those parts are the most important parts of Indian island. Nicobar and Andaman islands lie in the Bay of Bengal and are an integral part of this. On the other hand, Lakshadweep Island lies in the Arabian Sea and the most important feature of it is that it is a coral island. About Lakshadweep

It has been seen that in the Arabian Sea, there are three kinds of islands present and they are known as Lakshadweep and it is in the collective form. The three islands are- Minicoy Island, Laccadive Islands, and Amindivi islands. In this field, the result found that 25 small islands created this group. Some important features of these islands are-

  • Islands are coral in origin

  • Minicoy is the most advanced among all and also the largest

  • Surrounded by fringing reefs

The islands are scattered widely and it is about 200-500 km towards the southwest Kerala coast. Minicoy Island seems to be the southernmost island and Amendivi islands are the northernmost islands of India.  

Andaman Island and Nicobar Islands

The islands of Andaman in this field can be found in three parts of it such as Middle, North, and South. The different parts of the islands are separated by different passages. Like these aspects, it can be said that the Little Andaman has been separated by Duncan Passage from South Andaman. On the other hand, it can be seen that ten degree channel separates the great group of Islands of Andaman. Among all islands of Nicobar, Great Nicobar is considered to be the largest. The capital of the Nicobar and Andaman islands is Port Blair. Among all the particular islands, Great Nicobar is considered to be the greatest as well as largest    

Features -Andaman and Nicobar Island

  • Most of the islands are made of limestone, tertiary sandstone, and shale

  • All islands are volcanic in nature

  • Some of the islands are fringed with coral reefs

  • Saddle peak is the highest peak in North Andaman

The most important feature of all these islands is that they are volcanic in nature, and these volcanoes are considered to be the active volcanoes of India. Some of the islands are covered with thick forest in this field and most of them are covered with mountains. The Nicobar that is great is the southernmost part of this Island and it is very close to Indonesian Sumatra Island. 

Capital of Nicobar and Andaman Island

Port Blair is a city that is the capital of Nicobar and Andaman Island and it lies in the Bay of Bengal. This particular city lies in the southernmost coast of this island, and it seems the gateway of pristine islands. Most of the hotels and restaurants lie in the particular area of this field. 

Is Andaman and Nicobar part of India?

It can be seen that the major parts of India or the major island groups of India are mainly covered by the Nicobar and Andaman Archipelago, that goes to the Bay of Bengal. The most common difference between these two kinds of islands is that Lakshadweep is a coral island. Differently, it has been seen that Nicobar and Andaman islands are volcanic islands. Lakshadweep has 36 islands and Nicobar and Andaman Islands have 500 islands. The capital of Lakshadweep is Kavaratti and the capital of Andaman and Nicobar has the capital, Port Blair.
