US-China Carbon Pact and Pressure On India

Only some companies are focusing on reducing carbon emissions, and Apple is one of them. Apple declared its plan to go carbon neutral by 2030 in all the services it provides.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a harmful gas emitted from the burning of fossil fuels. CO2 is the most hazardous greenhouse gas. A greenhouse is a covering or structure planted around the plants. This greenhouse traps the sunlight inside it and helps in providing optimal growth temperatures to plants in cold conditions. Greenhouse gases are like greenhouses built for plants. These hazardous gases trap heat, which results in global warming.

Apple’s Mission of Carbon Reduction

Only some companies are focusing on reducing carbon emissions, and Apple is one of them. Apple declared its plan to go carbon neutral by 2030 in all the services it provides. It means that by 2030, an Apple device will be completely climate-friendly. In the 2020 report on environmental progress, Apple declared its aim to reduce carbon emissions by 75% by 2030. The luxury-sector brand is highly ambitious to work on developing carbon removal solutions along with a carbon emission reduction plan.

“We’re proud of our environmental journey and the ambitious roadmap we have set for the future,” says Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives.

The company has started using recycled materials and creating designs that are energy efficient and not just aesthetic. The rare earth materials used in the iPhone and other devices are extracted with the help of a robot developed by Apple. The robot is named Dave, and the company plans to make one more robot named Daisy for dismantling the devices, acquiring steel, and other material from them.

But Apple’s main carbon emission sources are not the devices but the manufacturing processes. Reducing the carbon footprint by 2030 is a challenge in itself. This claim has created pressure on the supply chain. Using renewable energy is more of an expense as the carbon taxes and the fees keep on increasing.

Apple’s ambitious plans have helped the company make great progress compared to any other company in the world. Nevertheless, the goal gets forgotten as the focus shifts to the efficiency of the processes. Carbon emissions do not reduce when materials are recycled, but when consumption and production reduce.

How can a business aim to reduce the demand for its own devices?

Apple has answered the question and it is the reason why the company is rated to have the best environmental campaigns in the world. Apple has reduced the product packaging material use and the energy used to produce and transport the devices.

US-China Carbon Pact

According to estimates, the US and China top the list of polluting countries in the world. These countries produce up to 42% of the total carbon emissions. The US-China agreement aims to reduce carbon emissions to below 28% by 2025. China contributed differently by presenting the aim to increase the usage of energy from zero-emission plants to 20%. All the countries need to focus on the climatic patterns, as not being carbon conscious will result in a rising number of droughts and cyclones each year.

The US and China plan to reach the level of 12 tons per capita emissions by 2030. Both the countries have taken a huge step as the most developed countries in the world. They are promoting and helping other countries like India to come forward and take an initiative to reduce carbon emissions on the planet. Certain big steps should be taken to reduce CO2 emissions and to put forward carbon mitigation practices.

Conclusion

Apple plays a significant role in the reduction of carbon emissions and making energy-efficient processes. The largest source of CO2 in the manufacturing and production systems of the company. For this reason, Apple has come up with a supply chain energy program to create a 100% renewable energy system. All office spaces and the retail stores of Apple are powered by renewable energy. Apple’s efforts have inspired many other tech companies to implement energy-efficient systems and contribute to carbon reduction.
