Emblem

The emblem of Telangana is also regarded as the state emblem of Telangana in South India. The arms of the emblem have Kakatiya Kala Thoranam in the centre. The Charminar is present inside it and has a circular border of green colour. It is also known as a circular seal.

Painter Laxman Aelay had designed the emblem and it was adopted by the government of K Chandrashekar Rao on June 2, 2014. While the Sarnath Lion Capital, when used in heraldry, must have the words ‘Satyameva Jayate’ written underneath the lion capital, this was initially ignored while making the emblem for Telangana. After a few complaints to the government, the emblem had to be changed after permission from the Government of Telangana on June 25, 2014. The same artist, Mr. Laxman Aelay, made the necessary changes so that the emblem complied with national norms.

Bird

The state symbol is Palapitta or Indian Roller due to its mythological importance. According to Hindu Mythology, the sight of this bird on Dussehra or before any work paves our path to victory. The reason behind this belief is that Lord Ram saw the Indian roller before attacking Lanka and came back victorious. Since then, the bird has been considered a good omen and was declared the state symbol of Telangana.

Tree

The state symbol is the Jammi tree. According to Hindu Mythology,  during exile, the Pandavs kept their arms on the Jammi tree. After the exile was completed, they prayed to the tree to return their arms and were successful in defeating the Kauravas with those arms. This symbolises victory, and hence, the Jammi tree was declared the state symbol.

Flower

Tanner’s Cassia is the state symbol. The reason behind selecting this flower as the state symbol was that it grows in the wild and is thought to protect the marital life of the females of the state.

Animal

The deer is the state symbol of Telangana as deer have a prominent role in The Ramayana. The Deer is known for its innocence, and likewise, the state also expresses the innocence of the people of the state through this symbol.

River

The state symbol is the Godavari river; it is also known as the Dakshin Ganga even though it is smaller than the Ganga. The Godavari river originates in Telangana itself; hence, it is regarded as the state symbol.
