PM Modi’s visit to UAE was the first time by any Indian Prime Minister within 34 years, after Indira Gandhi in 1981. The PM aims in having a conversation about the terror trade and outreach to the blue-collared community of Indian Expatriates. The significance of PM Modi’s visit to UAE was to enhance the relationship of India with the United Arab Emirates and to woo their funds for investing in different sectors like telecom, aviation, road transport and ports. The event had been planned for August 17, 2015 in the famous Dubai Cricket Stadium. The Indian Community Welfare Committee was responsible for all the preparations for this visit of the PM to UAE. PM’s UAE Visit

The Indian Prime Minister visited the UAE to build interest in them in trade and to present India as an attractive business destination. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also stated that India is the UAE’s 2nd largest trading partner and the United Arab Emirates is the 3rd largest trading partner of the country. Therefore, the UAE can be termed as the ‘valued partner’ of India. The Prime Minister was excited to meet the Indians working in the UAE for almost their entire life. Millions of Indians had made UAE their home as they not only work there but also stay there for several decades. PM Modi’s visit aimed to boost the ties between the people of both nations. He also stated that the global economic success story of the UAE attracts people from all over the world. He declared that he will converse with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE. He further said that he would visit Masdar city, the zero-carbon city which is a great step towards building a greener and healthier future. Narendra Modi received a warm welcome on his arrival. Moreover, the PM of India met the PM and Vice President of the UAE. 

The Significance of PM Modi’s visit to the UAE

As stated above, the main aim of PM Modi’s visit to UAE was to have great relations between both countries. Moreover, he talked about other important problems such as terrorism, trade and investment. Let’s get to know about the significance of PM Modi’s visit to UAE:

Terrorism

In the meeting, both the India and UAE decided to ask all other countries to eradicate the terrorism infrastructure. Moreover, the discussion involves the condemnation of using religion as the justification or for sponsoring terrorism in any part of the country. Both countries decided to frequently meet their NSA (National Security Advisors) for the complete eradication of terrorism from all over the world. 

Trade and Investment

Every developing country requires regular investment to be able to move in a positive success direction. The Indian Prime Minister was able to win the trust and friendship of the UAE. As a result, the UAE promises an investment of up to a trillion dollars through the establishment of the UAE-India Infrastructure Investment Fund. This investment is mainly to support the plans of building better infrastructure for the generation in the form of better railways, ports, parks, airports, and industrial corridors. Thus, the visit of PM Modi was a successful step in getting the country the economic help it needed for better infrastructure. 

Energy

Besides the money, the security of energy is also very important for any country. The absence of it will be a great hindrance to the long-term growth of the country. Due to the friendly relations between India and UAE, UAE promises to help India to manufacture planned petroleum reserves. 

Indian Diaspora

A large population of India lives in the UAE (including both Muslims and Hindus) for their livelihood. They were very excited due to the visit of the PM to UAE. There was a big crowd of Indian diaspora to meet the PM. PM Modi’s main aim was to assure them that even being apart from their country, they will not be left alone. Narendra Modi took several measures to make things easy for these migrants such as:

  • To help these Indian migrants, India wanted to build an e-migrant portal and online platforms. 

  • Further, India also aims in providing financial as well as mechanical help to the Indians in UAE. 

  • Moreover, the government of the UAE showed a heart-warming gesture by allotting land for the construction of the temple. 

Defense 

A country needs a strong defense system to protect its citizens. In the meeting, UAE and India decided to strengthen the defence system through well-organized training and exercises. It also aims to manufacture better defence equipment in India.
