PM CARES Fund

Due to COVID-19 pandemic in India, a public charitable trust called the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund) was established on March 27, 2020. The overarching concept was to cope with any type of emergency or dangerous situation.

PM CARES Fund

The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund) was established in the wake of the recent COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in India. The main purpose of the pm care fund collected was to battle, control, and rescue operations against coronavirus pandemic and roughly comparable disease outbreak situations in the coming decades. Objectives of PM CARES FUND

  • To initiate and assist with relaxation or guidance about a public health crisis or any kind of urgent situation, natural calamities, or despair, regardless of being man-made or naturally caused, including the formation or advancement of hospital infrastructure or pharmaceutical amenities, other supporting equipment, actual financing research, or other category of services
  • To provide financial support, make grants of finances, or take other actions necessitated by the Board of PM CARES FUND Trust  to the affected community
  • To engage in any other assignment that is required for the wellbeing of the affected population 

PM CARES FUND Trust’s constitution

The Prime Minister heads the chairman of the PM CARES Fund; other fund’s trustees include the Defence Minister, Home Affairs Minister, and Finance Minister. The Prime Minister, the Chairperson of said Board of Trustees, holds the right and authority to designate three different trustees to be added to the Board of Trustees. These trustees are specially characterized personnel from the disciplines of research, general wellbeing, scientific knowledge, human services, law, public administration, and charitable work. Any Trustee appointed shall serve on a non-profit basis for the wellness & goodness of the public.

Trustees’ responsibilities

The Trustees are in charge of the following responsibilities:

  • Fulfilling the Trust’s specific goals, objectives, priorities
  • Controlling the donation process to ensure that the contribution & Trust assets are being used appropriately
  • Making preparations and presenting all requisite documents, account information, and returns under relevant legislation

Criticism of PM CARES FUND

The overall finances donated and the names of individuals who donated towards the pm care fund have not been announced to the public. The pm privately audits the donation funds cares fund board. Pm cares fund trust uses public infrastructure and the national emblem of India as means of identity. The Indian government previously claimed that the donations’ funds are a private fund.
