Knowing More On Government Of Goa

Goa is the smallest Indian state. The current ruling party in Goa is BJP. The council of ministers in Goa is composed of nine ministers.

Goa is a state of India in the southwestern part of the country. It is one of India’s smallest states and it is flanked on the eastern and the southern side by the Arabian sea. The capital of this state is Panaji. The state of Goa has a very strong Portuguese influence on its culture. Goa is known to have the highest GDP per capita compared to other Indian states. It is also considered India’s smallest state in terms of area and population. Goa is a heavily visited site by international and domestic tourists because of its beaches, nightlife and also because of its architecture. The structure of the government of Goa is very similar to the government structure of other states. It is controlled by the constitution of India, which was established in the year 1950. The constitution of India appoints a governor for the state government for a period of five years and their duties are aided by a council of ministers. The legislative assembly is also known as the Vidhan Sabha.

History of the government of Goa

Goa has a rich history. The governor plays a major role in the government of Goa because they decide which political party will form the government in Goa. It is also the duty of the governor to decide if a legislature has to be suspended in case of any political issue. The government of Goa was considered to be quite stable up to the early nineties. However, ever since then, the government of Goa has been known for being quite unstable. Goa had also gone through a dissolution of the ruling government in the year 2005 when the ruling party was abolished and the President’s rule was implemented in the state. This also led to re-election, and as a result, Congress emerged as the winning party and resumed forming the government in Goa. Congress National Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party are considered to be the two biggest contending political parties in Goa. 

Legislative assembly of Goa

The legislative assembly of Goa is unicameral, which means that it consists of only one ruling house. The legislative assembly of Goa is responsible for deciding the budget for the state and also for deciding the infrastructural and agricultural development. It is also the responsible political body when it comes to levying taxes. The legislative assembly consists of all the political parties and the alliances formed by the political parties. This legislative assembly is then divided into two benches, namely the parties that form the government and the parties that can be considered the opposition. 

Council of ministers of the government of Goa

Goa is currently being ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and this party was elected as the ruling party on March 28, 2022. The current chief minister of the Goa is Mr. Pramod Sawant. The council of ministers consists of nine ministers. The roles of these ministers are as follows-

i) The departments of finance, health, Urban Development, TCP, Women’s and child care and forestry are taken up by Vishwajit Pratap Singh Rane.

ii) The departments of agriculture, handicrafts and civil supplies are taken up by Ravi Naik.

iii) The departments of WRD, cooperation and provedoria are taken up by Shubhash Shirodkar.

iv) The departments of transport, industries, panchayat and protocol are taken up by Mauvin Godinho.

v) The departments of tourism, IT, printing and stationery are taken up by Rohan Khaunte.

vi) The departments of Sports, art and culture and RDA are taken up by Govind Gaude.

vii) The departments of legislative affairs, environment, law and judiciary and PWD are taken up by Nilesh Cabral.

viii) The departments of Revenue, labour and waste management are taken up by Atanasio Monserrate.

Hence it can be concluded that Goa is the smallest Indian state in terms of area. It is considered to be one of the least populated states in India. It is known for its beaches, nightlife and also because of its architecture. It is one of the most heavily visited sites by both domestic and international tourists. The ruling party in Goa currently is the Bharatiya Janata Party. The chief minister of Goa is Mr. Pramod Sawant. BJP was elected as the ruling party in Goa in the month of March. The council of ministers consists of nine ministers and they all have multiple departments under their control.
