The Government of Andhra Pradesh is the governing body that handles the daily affairs of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra people democratically elect the Government of Andhra Pradesh for a term not exceeding five years. Andhra Pradesh has a bicameral legislature that comprises 175-member Legislative Assembly and 58-member Legislative Council. The Governor leads Andhra Pradesh as the nominal head of the state, and a democratically elected Chief Minister serves as the chief executive of the state.

The CM of Andhra Pradesh is the Chief Executive of the state, and, according to the Constitution of India, the Governor is the de jure head. The Chief Minister has de facto executive authority.
The state of Andhra Pradesh has had 17 Chief Ministers till now. The current Chief Minister of the State of Andhra Pradesh is Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has held office from 30 May 2019 and will serve with the assembly’s confidence for a term of 5 years.
Chandrababu Naidu from Telugu Desam Party has served as Andhra Pradesh CM for the longest period, holding the office for over thirteen years during his multiple tenures. N. Bhaskara Rao from Telugu Desam Party has held the office for the shortest period, lasting only 31 days.

Appointment of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh
After the elections of the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh, the Governor invites the party or the coalition with the majority of seats to form a government. Then the Governor appoints the chief minister and the council of ministers. The council of ministers are collectively responsible to the assembly.
With the assembly’s confidence, the chief minister can serve for five years in one term. And there are no limits on how many terms a person can serve as the chief minister.
The Eligibility Criteria for a person to be the Chief Minister are
- Should be a citizen of India
- Should be a member of the state legislation
- Should be older than the age of 25 years
Resignation of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh
Usually, the Chief Minister resigns after a general election during the assembly transition. The former Chief Minister holds the informal title of caretaker and enjoys the power of a regular chief minister but is not allowed to make any major policy decisions or cabinet changes until the Governor appoints the new Chief Minister.

The Governor of Andhra Pradesh, like any other governor, is appointed for a tenure of five years by the President of India. The official residence of the Governor is the Raj Bhavan.
The eligibility criteria for being a governor are:
- The person should be an Indian citizen
- Should be above the age of 35 years
- Should not be a member of either the house of parliament or the house of the state legislature
- Should not hold any office of profit
E.S.L. Narasimhan held the office of Andhra Pradesh Governor for the longest time, from 28 December 2009 to 23 July 2019, a total of 3495 days, and B.J. Divan held the office for the shortest term, from 17 February 1977 to 6 May 1977, a total of 78 days.
The Governor has powers and authority similar to the President of India, but these powers are vested to the governors at the state level.
