G20 Summit 2021- Italian Presidency

The G20 or Group of Twenty is an international platform, involving 19 countries and the European Union (EU). It was started in 1999, to try and answer several countries’ multiple financial crises. It is conducted at least twice a year to resolve the problems related to different countries in the sector of person, property, and planet. The summits are attended by the state heads or high ranking government officials of the member countries, and the European Commission and the European Central Bank as representatives of the EU. The motive for conducting the meeting was 3P: People, Prosperity, and the Planet. Below, we have discussed the G20 Summit 2021.

Short note on G20 Summit 2021

  • The G20 is a group of 19 countries, in addition to the European Union. It was formed to provide a constructive platform to discuss the serious problem which the countries were suffering from, such as global warming, sustainable environment, financial, and economic problems.
  • G20 ‘means the group of 20 people, and ‘ summit’ means meeting between heads of government. So, the G20 summit 2021 was the meeting of 20 leaders that was conducted in the capital of Italy, Rome, on 30th and 31st October, 2021. The main motive for aiming the meeting were people, prosperity, and the planet.
  • After the COVID-19 pandemic spread widely throughout the world, and the death rate in every country was increasing rapidly, the leaders decided to conduct a meeting regarding the health perspective of people. The meeting aimed at the easy supply of COVID -19 vaccination to the people at the proper vaccination time gaps, well equipped medical treatments, and to open lots of diagnostics centres for detecting the COVID-19 virus.

In the meeting of G20 leaders, there were declarations and discussions on some topics. These topics briefing are as follows.

  • Declaration on global warming that it should not cross 1.5 degrees. If it does, there will be limitations on industrial activities.
  • Discussion over the increasing greenhouse effect for the goodness of environment and reducing global warming.
  • Discussion over the serious problem of COVID 19 pandemic, and to ensure adequate supply of vaccines on time to the developing countries as fast as possible.
  • Declaration for the financial facilities provided to the countries to secure them from serious pandemic problems, and to make them financially stable.
  • Implementation of plans that make international tax more satisfactory by adding 15% of corporate tax, starting in 2023. 

G20 Summit 2021 Absent leaders

Because of the different reasons, some leaders were not able to attend the meeting in Rome, Italy 2021.

Five out of 19 leaders were not able to attend the meeting that took place regarding the serious discussion on the well-being of the people, financial problems related to countries, corporate tax, sustainable environment, global warming, and the pandemic.
