Many prominent personalities were born in Madhya Pradesh. Nagabhata I, Mihir Bhoja, Devpala, Yashovarman are some of the important rulers and generals who belong to Madhya Pradesh.
Dr BR Ambedkar who was also known as Baba saheb belonged to Madhya pradesh. Freedom fighters like Chandra Shekhar Azad, Rani Laxmi Bai, Tantya Tope and Ravishankar Shukla also belonged to Madhya pradesh. Scientists such as Narendra Karmarkar and Anil Kakodkar, Chief Justices of India- JS Verma and Ramesh Chandra Lahoti belonged to Madhya pradesh. Governor of RBI- Raghuram Rajan along with many politicians such as- BR Ambedkar (architect of the Constitution and former minister), Shankar Dayal Sharma (former President of India), Atal Bihari Vajpayee (former PM of India), Sharad Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, Sumitra Mahajan belonged to Madhya pradesh. Famous persons of Madhya Pradesh
Nagabhata I
Nagabhata I was the first prominent ruler of pratiharas dynasty. He ruled between 730-756 C.E. His rule was significant because of his successful confrontation with the Arabs. He fought against king Dantidurga also.
He fought with Mohammed Bin Kasim and the battle was known as the First Battle of Rajasthan.
Devpala
Devpala belonged to the Pala dynasty and ruled between 810-850 A.D.
He extended his control over Pragjyotishpur (Assam) and some parts of Odisha.
Rani Laxmi Bai
Rani Lakshmi Bai, also called Rani of Jhansi, was born on 19th November 1835 in Varanasi.
She was an important figure in the Indian revolt of 1857. She is known for her outstanding bravery in the freedom struggle of India against the British.
She was asked to leave the fort but she refused to leave and fought the battle.
Mihir Bhoja
Mihir Bhoja belonged to the Pratihara dynasty and ruled between 836-885 C.E.
He was the greatest ruler and a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. He adopted the title Adhivaraha.
He is considered as the real founder of the empire because he was engaged in tripartite struggle and he was the one who defeated Pala and rashtrakuta and captured Kannauj.
He tried to extend his empire in every direction.
B.R. Ambedkar
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was also known as Baba Saheb. He is known as the father of the Indian Constitution and was the chairman of the drafting committee of the constituent assembly.
He was always against the caste based discrimination in the society and advocated for the dalits to organise and demand their rights.
He also launched an active protest against untouchability and also founded the Independent Labour Party.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25th December 1924 and was the 10th Prime Minister of India.
He belonged to Gwalior where he started with Arya Kumar Sabha, the young wing of the Arya Samaj movement.
At the age of 16 years he became an active member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
He also participated in the Quit India Movement.
Ramesh Chandra Agarwal
Ramesh Chandra Agrawal was born on 30th November 1944 in Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh (India), and died at the age of 72 on 12th April 2017 in Ahmedabad.
Ramesh Chandra Agarwal was a successful entrepreneur and media proprietor.
He was the founder chairman of a prominent newspaper in India- Dainik Bhaskar. Currently, this newspaper has 62 editions in 14 states of India, and the total readership is approximately 15 million.
Ramesh Chandra Agrawal started Dainik Bhaskar in 1958 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Later on, in 1983, he launched it in Indore and, in 1996, in Rajasthan.
In 2012, he was ranked 95th on the Forbes list of India’s richest persons.
Tantia Bhil
Tantia Bhil was born on 26th January 1942 in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.
He is also known as Kranti Surya Jannayak Tantya Mama.
He was an active freedom fighter hanged on 4th December 1889 by Britishers at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh (India).
His death anniversary is celebrated as a sacrifice day in Madhya Pradesh.
On his death anniversary in 2021, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, unveiled a grand statue of Jannayak Tantya Mama made of Ashtadhatu at Patalpani.
Tantia Bhil was a member of the Bhil tribe (an Adivasi community) and was an Indian Robin Hood. He was one of the greatest revolutionaries and a freedom fighter and struggled against British rule for twelve years. He used to plunder the Government treasuries of the British government and distributed the loot among the poor and needy.
Narendra Karmarkar
Narendra Krishna Karmarkar was born in 1956 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
He is an Indian mathematician who developed Karmarkar’s algorithm. His algorithm is usually referred to as an interior point method.
Karmarkar’s algorithm was introduced in 1984 for solving linear programming problems. It was the first efficient algorithm that’s all linear programming problems in polynomial time.
Today he is listed as an ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) highly cited researcher.
He has received various prestigious awards, including the Paris Kanellakis Award (2000), the Srinivasa Ramanujan Birth Centenary Award for 1999, presented by the Prime Minister of India, the President of India gold medal, I.I.T. Bombay (1978), etc.
