The human reproduction process consists of several significant functions. Major functions played by the reproduction system can be mentioned as ensuring the survival of each species. Helping in fertilization by releasing eggs is an important function of the ovary. Fallopian tubes create pathways for the egg cells. Creating space for the baby to come out during labour is an important function of the cervix.
Major parts and functions of the female reproductive system
Parts | Functions |
---|---|
Ovaries | Ovaries are considered the female gonads and the primary reproductive organ.
|
Fallopian tubes | The fallopian tubes are an important part of the female reproductive system.
|
Uterus | A uterus is also known as the womb of the female reproductive system.
|
Vagina | One of the most important parts of a female reproductive system can be mentioned as a vagina.
|
Cervix | The Cervix is considered as the door of the uterus. It helps in producing cervical mucus at the time of the fertile phase during the menstrual cycle.
|
External genital organs | These organs are considered an important part of the female reproductive system.

Accessory glands |

Major parts and functions of the male reproductive system
There are two most important parts of the male reproductive system. The reproductive system of a male is generally located outside of a body. All the responsible organs of a male reproductive system are divided into two different parts, external and internal organs.
Male reproductive system | External organs | Penis: A penis is used to urinate and at the time of sexual intercourse. |
---|---|---|
Scrotum: This is considered the bag of skin that helps in holding and protecting testicles. | ||
Testicles: This organ is found to be responsible for producing sperm. | ||
Internal organs | Urethra: This is an important tube of the male reproductive system for carrying urine. | |
Vas deferens: This tube is found to be stretched from the epididymis to the pelvic cavity. | ||
Prostate: This organ is useful in draining urine from the urethra. |
Stages of the human reproduction process
The human reproduction process consists of three significant stages.
- Pre-fertilisation stage: This stage is an important stage in which the whole process of fertilisation is prepared. The two most important events can be mentioned in this regard. The first event is the formation of male and female gametes. The second event is the transferring process of the formed gametes.
- Fertilisation stage: This stage consists of four processes, preparation of sperm, recognition, and binding of sperm and egg, a fusion of eggs and sperm, and pronuclei of egg with the zygote activation process.
- Post-fertilisation stage: After the completion of the fertilisation process, this process is considered. The division of the embryo in a mitotic order in order to form different multicellular embryos is considered as an important part of this stage.
Conclusion
Both the female and male reproductive systems are included in the human reproduction process. Through the vagina, a baby comes out at the time of delivery for a normal delivery process. The production of the hormone, testosterone is also done by testicles. The urethra also plays an important role in a male body in ejaculating semen. Mature sperms are transported to the urethra by Vas deferens tube. Producing fluid for nourishing and transporting sperm is another important function of the prostate.
