RRB Paramedical Staff Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who are willing to apply for paramedical positions in Indian Railways should appear and clear the RRB or Railways Recruitment Board Paramedical Staff examination. But, before that, it is compulsory for candidates to meet the RRB Paramedical Staff Eligibility requirements.
Here’s the RRB Paramedical staff recruitment eligibility criteria:
Medical standards
There are certain medical standards that candidates need to meet for recruitment in Railways. These are as follows –

Candidates who had Lasik surgery or any other surgical procedure in the past for correcting a refractive error cannot appear for post having B1 Medical Standards.
Citizenship
To get eligible for appearing and qualifying for the RRB Paramedical staff examination, candidates need to be citizens of either one of the options mentioned below.
- Citizen of India, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- Tibetan refugee who came over to India, prior the 1st January 1962 for getting settled in India
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, East African Countries of Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India
Candidates belonging to 2, 3, 4, and 5 categories should have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India in their favour. If candidates are fulfilling options other than being citizens of India then they must provide a certificate of eligibility needed by GOI or Government of India.

Note: The lower and upper age limits in the vacancy table will be reckoned as on 01.07.2019.

Certain relaxations are also provided to candidates belonging to these categories:
- For OBC-Non creamy layer candidates – 3 years of age relaxation.
- For SC/ST candidates – 5 years of age relaxation.
- For Ex-Servicemen candidates who have put in more than 6 months service after attestation (covering UR/ OBC/ SC/ST reserved category too) – Upper age limit as per the above table plus community age relaxation wherever applicable along with the number of years of service rendered in defence + 3 years.
- For PwD candidates, SC/ST – 15 years relaxation; OBC – 13 years relaxation, and UR – 10 years relaxation.
- For candidates with Jammu and Kashmir domicile irrespective of the caste – Upper age limit along with community age relaxation wherever applicable plus 5 years.
- For candidates who are serving Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ Railway Staff, Casual Labour and Substitutes and put in a minimum of 3 years service – for UR – 40 years, for OBC – 43 years, and for SC/ ST – 45 years of age has been relaxed.
- For candidates who are working in Quasi-Administrative offices of the Railway organisation – Up to the term of service provided for 5 years, whichever is less, plus any relevant community age relaxation.
- Women candidates who have been bereaved, divorced, or judicially separated from their husbands but have not remarried – for UR category – 35 years of age, for OBC – 35 years, for SC/ ST candidates – 40 years of age relaxation is there.
Note:
- In case a candidate is eligible for age relaxation on more than one ground, the consideration will be given based on the highest age relaxation he/she is eligible for.
- There is no age relaxation for Non-creamy layer candidates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) who are applying against unreserved vacancies
- PwD candidates who are applying for unreserved vacancies are allowed age relaxation that is applicable only for UR PwD
Post Parameters – Educational Qualifications
Educational requirements vary as per the post you’re applying for. These are explained in detail below –
A. Dietician – Candidate need to hold BSc (Science) with Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics of one year (full-fledged) from a recognized institution along with internship training of minimum 3 months in a particular hospital.
Candidates with B.Sc Home Science + M.Sc Home Science (Food and Nutrition) from a recognised institution can also apply for the same post.
B. Staff nurse – Candidates need to have a certificate as Registered Nurse and Midwife having passed a 3 years course in General Nursing and Midwifery from a school of Nursing or other institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council. If candidates hold qualification in B.Sc (Nursing) then he or she can also apply for the same.
Note: The Indian Nursing Council gives special concessions for the above courses to Auxiliary nurse Midwives, Midwives and ‘B’ Grade Nurses, by reducing their course period etc. Candidates who have qualification as prescribed above, under these concessions will be eligible for recruitment.
C. Dental hygienist – Candidates need to have a qualification as of Degree in Science (Biology) from a recognized university or equivalent + Diploma/ Certificate Course of complete 2 years in major Dental Hygiene from an institute recognized by Dental Council of India + Registered with Dental Council of India as Dental Hygienist + need to have a two years experience as Dental Hygienist to apply for this respective post.
D. Dialysis technician – Candidates need to hold B.Sc + Diploma in Haemodialysis or two years satisfactory in-house Training / Experience in Haemodialysis work in a reputed institution for applying for this post.
E. Extension educator – Candidates need to hold qualifications up to graduation in Sociology / Social Work / Community Education disciplines with 2 years diploma in Health Education from a recognized University.
F. Health & Malaria inspector grade III – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of B.Sc. having studied Chemistry as Main / Optional subject in any branch of Chemistry while undertaking the course plus One-year Diploma of Health / Sanitary Inspector or One year National Trade Certificate (NTC) in Health Sanitary Inspector by National Council for Vocational Training, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, New Delhi for applying for this post.
G. Lab superintendent grade III – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of B.Sc with Biochemistry / MicroBiology / Life science / B.Sc with Chemistry and Biology as major or as optional/ subsidiary subjects or equivalent along with Diploma in Medical Lab Technology (DMLT) or equivalent B.Sc in Medical Technology (Laboratory) from a recognized institution for applying for the post of lab superintendent grade III.
H. Optometrist – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of B.Sc in Optometry or Diploma in Ophthalmic Technician of 3 to 4 years. The candidate needs to have registration with the particular concerned council / licensing body.
I. Perfusionist – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of B.Sc with Diploma in Perfusion Technology or B.Sc irrespective of the major along with a minimum of three years experience in Cardio-Pulmonary Pump Technician in a reputed recognized hospital.
J. Physiotherapist – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of graduation and must hold a bachelor’s in Physiotherapy from a recognized university and minimum of two years of practical experience in Physiotherapy from the government / private hospital that has at least one hundred beds.
K. Pharmacist grade III – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of graduation and must hold a bachelor in 10+2 in Science or its equivalent, with a diploma in pharmacy from a recognized institution and registered as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948 or bachelor degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharma) from a recognized University or equivalent and registered as a Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act,1948.
L. Radiographer – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of the senior secondary with Physics and Chemistry and two-year diploma in major Radiography, or X-Ray Technician, or Radio Diagnosis Technology from a recognized Institute. Candidates who graduate in major Science and have a diploma in Radiography, or X-Ray Technician, or Radio Diagnosis Technology of minimum 2 years can apply for this respective post.
M. Speech therapist – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of graduation, specifically must have B.Sc degree along with two years of diploma in Audio and Speech Therapy and candidates need to have two years of experience for applying for this post.
N. ECG technician – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of senior secondary education, specifically must have 10+2 and a graduation degree in major Science and if candidates are having the certificate, or a diploma, or even a degree in the major of ECG Laboratory Technology, or Cardiology, or Cardiology Technician, or Cardiology Techniques from a reputed institution.
O. Lady visitor health – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of senior secondary education from a recognized Board or a university along with multipurpose workers courses from Institutes recognized by Central/ State Governments for applying for this respective post.
P. Lab assistant grade III – Candidates need to have a qualification up to the level of senior secondary education in-stream Science, along with this, candidates need to have a minimum one-year duration diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a certificate course in a major medical Lab. In addition, candidates need to have a diploma in major of Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) from the institution which is recognized by a University or Technical Board of State Government/Central Government authority. During the certificate course, candidates need to have a working certificate as a full training and passing certificate of the course.
