RRB NTPC Application Process

The authoritative body of the Railway Recruitment Board Non-technical Popular Categories has announced the detailed guidelines regarding the application for the exam. It includes various aspects which are listed below-

a. Candidates can apply for the listed vacancies of any RRB only if they meet the eligibility requirements. Candidates who are waiting for the final result of the prescribed educational qualification by RRB should not apply.

b. Visit the official website to fill the online application form. Click on the option “New Registration”.

c. Choose the RRB where you want to apply. Please know that once the RRB has been chosen, it cannot be modified after the completion of the preliminary registration and a registration number has been assigned.

d. Check the box to indicate that you have read and understood the guidelines thoroughly.

e. Registration details: Enter your name, father’s name, date of birth, mother’s name, year of passing, aadhaar number, SSLC/matric roll number, email ID, and mobile number. Before submitting the registration details, double-check that all of the appropriate details are correct, as the information you provide for registration cannot be modified later. Please keep in mind that the email address and phone number you enter to register must be yours and authentic. Also, both the email and cellphone number will be confirmed by a One Time Password throughout the Online Application procedure (OTP).

f. OTP verification of email address and cellphone number: OTPs will be provided to the registered mobile number and email address after the primary information is submitted. The candidate must obtain OTPs from their email and mobile phones, then submit them to complete the application and make payment using the OTP “Activation Link.” The Registration Number is issued and sent to the registered email address and mobile number upon successful OTP activation. Candidates should take note of their Registration Number and keep it safe for reference purposes during the selection process. RRB will not respond to any requests for registration numbers.

g. Candidates can access the online application by going to the Home Page and clicking the Candidate Login button, then entering their Registration Number and password.

h. In Part I of the application page, enter information about your educational qualifications, community (UR/OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/EWS), gender, religion, Ex SM, PwBD, Minority, Economically Backward Class, and Age Relaxation eligibility categories, if applicable, and other relevant data.

i. Payment and Bank Account Details: 

i) After completing the above-mentioned application details, the candidate will be guided to the payment page, where he or she will be able to select a payment method (Bank (Online Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI and Offline Challan) or Post Office Challans, as per the guidelines, and finish the financial transactions. Select a payment method and complete the payment transactions. If the candidate’s online payment fails, he or she must complete a new transaction. Please keep in mind the deadlines for each means of payment and submit your application on time.

ii) Payment confirmation may take up to two hours for those paying via bank-offline method, therefore they must log in again after two hours and check for payment status confirmation.

iii) In the case of Post Office payments, the time period for final payment will vary from 24 to 48 hours.

j. Part II of the application page requires details regarding the priority/preference of posts.

Set priority/preferences for posts: If an applicant is qualified for multiple positions depending on his or her academic qualifications and other information provided, he or she must prioritise/prefer these positions. The list of postings under which a candidate is qualified (in the selected RRB) is displayed. Likewise, if the chosen RRB has openings for multiple Railway/Production Units, a candidate’s eligibility for all such Railways/Production Units will be listed. In the textbox next to each position that they are qualified for in the RRB they are enrolling to, the candidate should enter their priority/preferences number.

k. Scribe for PwBD Candidates: If you are a PwBD candidate who is eligible for scribe, click on the option. Only candidates with Visual Impairment (VI) or candidates whose writing pace is hampered by Cerebral Palsy/muscular dystrophy/candidates with Locomotor disability (one arm)/Intellectual disabilities such as Autism, specific learning disabilities, and mental illness, are qualified for scribe services under the guidelines. If you’ve decided on a scribe, fill in the blanks with the scribe’s name, father’s name, academic background, and so on. The scribe assigned to the candidate should not be the applicant for the notification for which the candidate is attending, and the same writer must not be assigned to multiple candidates.

l. Detailed Educational Qualification: As requested in the application, include all essential information on the qualification.

m. Exam Language: The standard exam language is English. If the candidate prefers to use a different language, he or she can do so by selecting it from the drop-down menu. Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu are among the languages listed.

If there is a difference/discrepancy/dispute between the English and the chosen language versions of the questions, the content of the English version will take precedence.

n. Fill in the blanks, such as Mother Tongue, Moles/Identification Marks, and Address.

o. Photograph and Signature Upload: 

i) The candidate will be redirected to the ‘Photo and Signature Upload’ section of the application automatically.

ii) Go to the Upload Photo option and upload your colour image. The photograph must meet the following specifications.

iii) Specifications for Photograph: 

  1. It must be a colour passport photo with a white or light-colored background.
  2. It should be 35mm x 45mm or 320 × 240 pixels in size.
  3. It should be scanned in JPG/JPEG format with a resolution of 100 DPI.
  4. The photo should be between 20 and 50 KB in size.
  5. The colour picture must be taken in a professional studio on or after January 1st of the year for which the RRB NTPC exam is being conducted. Self-composed portraits and photographs taken using a mobile phone may lead to application rejection.
  6. The photo should have the front view of the candidate without sunglasses and cap.
  7. With a full face view looking directly at the camera, the face must cover a minimum of 50% of the space of the picture.
  8. The hair on the head, clothing or shadow should not be hiding the main features of the face.
  9. The forehead, eyes, nose, and chin must all be visible.
  10. If the candidate wears spectacles, there should be no glare or reflections on the glasses in the shot, and the candidate’s eyes must be easily noticeable.
  11. The candidate’s photo must reflect his or her look on the days of the CBTs/CBAT/TST, document verification, and medical exam.
  12. PwBD candidates must also submit a passport photograph that meets the specified requirements, rather than the full body photograph used on the disability certificate.
  13. It is recommended that candidates should keep a minimum of 12 copies of the same picture, as these might be used during the selection process.

iv) Go to the Upload Signature Tab and scan your signature. The following requirements must be fulfilled by the signature image.

v) Specification for Signature Image:

  1. In a box of 50 mm by 20 mm, the applicant must sign on white paper with a black ink pen.
  2. Signatures should be in running letters, and not block letters. 
  3. The image should be of 100 DPI scanned in JPG/JPEG format.
  4. 50 mm x 20 mm or 140 x 60 pixels are the dimensions (preferred).
  5. The file must be between 10 and 40 KB in size.
  6. Notes:
    1. The applicant’s signature must be the only one on the document.
    2. Throughout registration and during CBTs/CBAT/TST/Document verification/Medical, the applicants’ signature should match the submitted signature.
    3. In case of a signature mismatch, the candidate may be disqualified, legal action will be taken against them, and they will be forbidden for life from participating in any railway recruitment conducted by RRBs or RRCs).

vi) SCANNING AND RESIZING OF THE PHOTOGRAPH AND SIGNATURE: 

  1. Set the resolution of the scanner to a minimum of 100 dpi (dots per inch).
  2. The colour should be set to True Colour. The file size is as stated above.
  3. Trim the image to the margin of the photograph/signature in the scanner, then crop it to the final size using the upload editor (as specified above).
  4. The image should be saved as a JPG or JPEG file. image01.jpg or image01.jpeg is an example of a file name.
  5. By listing the folder files or dragging the mouse over the file image icon, you may see the image dimensions. Using MS Paint or MS Office Picture Manager, candidates can quickly acquire a picture and signature in .jpeg format with a file size of no more than 50KB and 40KB, respectively.
  6. Scanned pictures and signatures in any form can be saved in .jpg format using the File menu’s Save As option, and the size can be decreased to under 50KB (picture) and 40KB (signature) using the Image menu’s crop and then resize option. Other picture editors have similar features as well.

vii) SC/ST Certificate Upload:

      1. Candidates from the SC/ST community who wish to use the Free Rail Travel service must also submit a scanned copy of their SC/ST certificates (JPG/JPEG format, 50 KB – 100 KB) in order to use the service (Second Class Railway Pass).
      2. An error warning will appear if the file size and format for the photograph, signature, and SC/ST Community Certificate are not as specified.

viii) Submission of Application:

At the end, candidates will have to confirm the declaration “I hereby declare that I have gone through the eligibility criteria for the post(s) applied for and meet all the requirements therein, that all the details furnished by me in the application are true and complete to the best of my knowledge & belief and nothing has been concealed or suppressed. I also understand that in case, any of the details furnished is found untrue during any stage of recruitment or thereafter, RRB shall disqualify me for the post(s) applied for and /or I shall be liable for any other action under the extant rules”. 

Following confirmation of the aforesaid statement and submission of the application, the candidate may download the file as a PDF and/or print the application for future reference and record.
