What is Torsional Stress?

What is torsional stress - Find the answer to this question and access a vast question bank that is customized for learners.

Answer:- There are two important concepts in physics. One is stress which is defined as the resistance which the matter imposes on the force which is applied on it. Strain is something which tries to alter the original form of the matter. Now if an object gets twisted because a torque is applied in it, it is called the torsion. Suppose we have a cylinder which is getting twisted, a stress will be applied on its transverse cross-section.

Here the Torsion = r × T/J

where T is torque and J is moment of inertia.
