What is the Physical Importance of the Moment of Inertia?

Answer: The Physical significance of moment of inertia is same to the mass in transitional motion. In transitional motion, the mass of inertia is used for calculating the inertia. As the mass level increases the inertia becomes higher. The force needed to produce linear acceleration will also improve.

It is vital to understand that the moment of inertia relies on the above three factors

  • Size, shape and density of the body
  • The position of axis rotation
  • Mass
