What do you mean by the acceleration due to gravity?

Answer: As an object freely falls from a certain height to the surface of the earth, its velocity changes. This change in velocity produces an acceleration of the object, represented by the letter g, called gravitational acceleration. The value of gravitational acceleration is g = 9.8 m / s2.

The value of gravitational acceleration “g” is affected by

  • The height from the surface of the earth

  • Depth below the surface of the earth

  • The shape of the earth

  • Earth’s rotation
