What are the Conditions for Constructive and Destructive Interference?

Answer:

  • Interference is caused when two or more waves coincide, and the resultant wave formed is either higher, lower or the same amplitude as the initial waves.
  • For interference to occur, the intensity and the amplitude should be strong enough to produce a noticeable difference in the maxima and minima.
  • The light source should be small enough to be considered a point source of light.
  • For a constructive interference to occur, the phase difference between two certain waves should be an even multiple of π or the value 180°.
  • For destructive interference to occur, the phase difference between two certain waves should be an odd multiple of π or the value 180°.
