State Laws of Refraction

State laws of refraction? Find the answer to this question and access a vast question bank customized for students.

Answer : Refraction is how light changes direction and speed as it passes from one medium to another. This phenomenon can be seen when looking at a straw in a glass of water. Light waves travel slower in water than they do in the air.

When a person looks at the straw, they will see the light bend as it enters the water, change direction, and bend again as it leaves the water. The angle of refraction is determined by the angle of incidence (the angle between the incident ray and regular) and the index of refraction (the ratio between velocity in vacuum and velocity in medium).
