State and explain the first law of thermodynamics?

Answer: The first law of thermodynamics states that heat is a form of energy, so the thermodynamic process follows the law of conservation of energy. This means that it cannot generate or destroy thermal energy. However, it can be transported from one place to another and converted into other forms of energy.

Q = W+∆U

Here,

∆U = total change in the internal energy of the system

Q = heat exchanged between the system and its surroundings

W = work performed on the system(-) or by the system(+)
