Explain Why the Sliding Friction is Less than the Static Friction

Answer: The force that resists the motion of one solid object over another is known as friction. Friction includes both sliding friction and static friction. 

The friction of sliding – Friction of sliding is described as the resistance caused when two things slide against one another.

Static friction – Static friction is the force of friction that occurs between surfaces when they are at rest relative to one another. 

For the given pair of surfaces, sliding friction is somewhat less than static friction because it is easier to move an item that is in motion than one that is at rest.
