Briefly describe what is meant by the solar system?

The Universe can be described as a huge continuous area of space containing all the things that exist. The diverse galaxies, planets and stars, all are a part of the Universe. Within the Universe, we have our solar system. There are various planetary systems like ours in the Universe and in these systems, the planets orbit around a host star. The planetary system which we call ours is known as the ‘solar system’.

This is because the Sun is named Sol, which is as per the Latin word solis. Thus, all things related to Sun are known as Solar. This can help in a better understanding of the solar system and its naming.

Further, it can be said that the Solar system consists of the Sun which is our star along with all the things that are bound to the Sun through the means of gravity. These can include planets such as Mercury, Earth, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Venus, Saturn and Mars.

In our solar system, the largest object is called the Sun. The Sun can be called a four-point five billion years old star. In the solar system, the rocky planets include Mercury, Earth, Venus and Mars. Saturn, as well as Jupiter, can be called the outer planets that are also known as gas giants. The ice giants can include planets such as Neptune and Uranus. Thus, all of these points help in learning in detail about the solar system. Through this, one can comprehensively understand the solar system.
