Advantages and Disadvantages of Friction

Answer:

Friction is defined as the resistance to motion of one item relative to another. Friction may take many different shapes. Some of the benefits and drawbacks of Friction are as follows:

Advantages-

  • Friction is responsible for a wide range of movements
  • It makes it easier for us to walk on the ground
  • Friction is used by a car’s brakes to bring it to a stop
  • Friction results in the asteroids being burned up in the atmosphere before reaching Earth
  • Rubbing our hands together assists in the production of heat

Disadvantages-

  • Friction wastes energy by generating needless heat
  • Friction works in the opposite direction of motion, slowing down the velocity of moving things
  •  Forest fires ignite when tree branches scrape against one other
  • A lot of money is spent on avoiding friction and the wear and tear that comes with it using procedures like greasing and oiling
