If one looks at any cylinder, one would realize that a cylinder is made up of two circles at both the ends and a rectangle, i.e., when one opens the cylinder, it would become a rectangle. So, to calculate the perimeter of the cylinder, one would need the perimeter of both the circles and the perimeter of the rectangle.

The perimeter of a circle can be known with the help of its radius. The formula to find the perimeter of a circle is 2r, where r is the radius of a circle.

And, the perimeter of a rectangle can be known with the help of its length (l) and breadth (b). The formula to find the perimeter of a rectangle is 2(l + b), where l is the length of the rectangle and b is the breadth of the rectangle.

If we consider the cylinder as a rectangle with circles on the top and the bottom, we can derive the formula to find the perimeter of a cylinder.

Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(l + b), now, considering circles as the length (l) and height (h) of the cylinder as breadth (b), we can get perimeter of a cylinder = 2(2r + h), opening the bracket, we get, 4r + 2h.

Thus, the formula for perimeter of cylinder = 2(2r + h) or 4r + 2h.
