The smallest composite number is ________?

Answer:

The composite numbers are the numbers that have more than two factors. Or another definition can be referred to as all natural numbers which are not the prime numbers are called composite numbers. These composite numbers can be divided by more than two numbers. This is not like a prime number that has only one factor that is 1 and the number itself. Composite numbers are all natural numbers that can be divided by two or more than two numbers,

For example- Twenty can be written as

20= 1x2x2x5

Thus, the number 20 has 4 factors which is more than one.

Hence, we can say number 20 is a composite number.

There are two types of composite numbers and they are-

1. Odd Composite Numbers

The composite numbers with an odd digit in the unit’s place are called odd composite numbers. So, in short, all the odd numbers that are not prime numbers are referred as odd composite numbers

Example- 9, 15, 21

2. Even Composite Numbers

The composite numbers that have an even digit in the unit’s place are referred to as the even composite numbers. In short, all the even numbers are even numbers except 2, because no even number can be prime numbers.

Example- 8, 12, 14

So, the smallest composite number is 4.

4 is the smallest single digit composite number and 10 is the smallest two-digit composite number.

Number 4 has the least factors. It has only 2 factors

1×4= 4

2×2=4

Thus, the smallest composite number is number 4.
