How do you Convert km/h to m/s

In this article we can understand the conversion of km/h to m/s with examples which makes the concept more clear.

Q. How do you convert km/h to m/s?

Answer – For converting units, it is firstly important to understand which units are we talking about. In this question, we wish to convert kilometres per hour to metres per second. The word kilometre is expressed as ‘km’ and hour is represented as ‘h’. Similarly, the word metre is represented with ‘m’ and the second is represented with ‘s’. These units can be used in Mathematics for finding the solution to various problems.

For learning how to convert kilometres per hour into metres per second, we can first focus on the following points: –

  • 1 kilometre = 1000 metres
  • 1 hour = 3600 seconds

Thus, from this, it can be inferred that: –

  • 1 Km/hr = 1000/3600 m/sec

After further simplification of the above equation, one can find the answer as 5/18 m/sec which can further be 0.28 m/sec.

Therefore, it can be understood that for converting km/hr to m/sec one can multiply the values by 5/18. Thus, with this one can better understand how we convert km/hr into m/sec.

For better understanding purposes, we can look at the following example wherein 27 km/hr needs to be converted into m/sec.

To find the solution to the above problem, we can multiply 27km/hr by 5/18 and the answer showing 7.5m/s would be the result after conversion.
