Giuseppe Mazzini was an Italian revolutionary who was born in Genoa in 1807. He was a member of Carbonari’s secret society. In 1831, at the age of 24, he was exiled for attempting a revolution in Liguria. In Marseilles, he founded the ‘Young Italy’ society, and in Berne, he founded the ‘Young Europe’ society, which brought together like-minded young men from Poland, France, Italy, and the German states. Giuseppe Mazzini wanted to unite Italy as part of a larger alliance of nations. He believed that this unification was the sole source of Italian liberty.
