Why was the Non-Cooperation Movement started in 1920, and why was the Movement called off in 1922?

Answer: The non-cooperation movement was initiated in 1920. The primary objective of the non-cooperation movement was to gain complete access to our country and ultimately for the British government to grant us independence. The non-cooperation movement aimed at peaceful proceedings.

However, in 1922 named The Chauri Chaura incident, a mob of many freedom fighters was passing by in a peace rally. A British policeman opened fire and hurled sensitive comments, which caused agitation among the protesters. There was violence all over the place, which led to the killings of the policeman. After this incident, Mahatma Gandhi decided to call off the non-cooperation movement because it didn’t fulfil its very objectives.
