In India, the last Mughal emperor and ruler was Bahadur Shah II, who also went by the name Bahadur Shah Zafar during his reign from 1837 to 1857. The 24th of October, 1775 found him being born in Delhi, India, and the 7th of November, 1862 found him passing away in Rangoon. In addition to being a poet, pianist, and calligrapher, he was more of a recluse than a politician during his life.

The Marathas and then the British eventually took control of a significant portion of the country’s land. The last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah II (1837–57), was exiled by the British after his involvement in the Indian Mutiny of 1857–58.
