Answer: Kiran Bedi was the first Indian woman IPS officer. She was born on June 9, 1949, in Amritsar, India. She joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1972 and introduced prison reform in India. 

She is one of the most popular civil servants of India who fought against drug abuse and the exploitation of women. She also dealt with the issues of illegal trafficking of liquor. 

She was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay award for her revolutionary approach. She served as a narcotics officer, administrator and as an anti-terrorist specialist. 

She gained tremendous recognition for reshaping the Tihar Jail in Delhi addressing corruption and human rights abuse issues.
