The father of Geography is Eratosthenes of Cyrene (276 BCE–194 BCE), the ancient Greek scholar. He had a small-scale notion of the planet that helped him to evaluate the circumference of the earth and he was the one to use the word geography. 

About Eratosthenes

• Eratosthenes was multi-talented as he proved his talents in being a Greek mathematician, poet, astronomer, music theorist and geographer.

• He divided the earth into five climate zones, they are zones around the poles, two temperate zones, a zone encompassing the equator and the tropics and mapped it as the entire world.

• He was the Chief Librarian at the Library of Alexandria; he was good at learning and exploring.

• He discovered the terminologies and discipline of geography that are even used today.
