Answer: In Assam, the Ahoms were a formidable tribal people who formed a powerful monarchy.
It was a late medieval Assamese empire that ruled across the Brahmaputra Valley. It successfully fought Mughal expansion in Northeast India for about 600 years, preserving its sovereignty.
It quickly expanded in the 16th century under Suhungmung and became multi-ethnic, having a tremendous impact on the political and social life of the entire Brahmaputra valley.
This tribe still exists, and in the current phase, the people of this tribe now have different beliefs than their old culture. There are many other ethnic groups in Assam, like Borahis. They were also merged or absorbed into the Ahom community.
