Which State has the Highest Population Of Tigers in India?

Answer: As the state with the largest number of big cats, Madhya Pradesh (MP) was given the title of “Tiger State” in 2018. (526). Three years later, the largest state in the nation headed once again a ranking in the tiger census, but with the following depressing results: Data from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to December 14 indicate that MP experienced the largest number of tiger deaths (40) in 2021.

Every four years, the survey that started in October is conducted. Since dropping the top rank to Karnataka in 2014, MP took it back in the most recent report, which was published in 2018. 

In 2014, MP came in third with 308 tigers, followed by Uttarakhand with 340, and Karnataka with 408 tigers.

In November 2021, the Madhya Pradesh High Court sent notices to the MP government’s ministry of environment, the Union government, and the NTCA, requesting an explanation for the high number of tiger fatalities in the state. The death toll stood at 36 at that point, and four more, including tigress T30, who was transferred from the state’s Bandhavgarh National Park to Sanjay National Park, passed away later in the month.
