Which is the smallest ocean in the world?

Answer: Oceans are saltwater bodies that cover more than 70% of the Earth. The weather changes that happen worldwide are a result of ocean currents. Oceans are the largest water bodies that you will see on Earth. There are five oceans, namely the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Antarctic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Arctic Ocean. Various continents of the world separate these five oceans.

The smallest ocean in the world is the Arctic Ocean. It is not just the smallest but also the shallowest ocean in the world. The area covered by the Arctic Ocean is about 14,060,000 square km. It is also called the Arctic Mediterranean Sea by the International Hydrographic Organization.

The Arctic Ocean is located at the North Pole. The ocean is encircled by Eurasia, Greenland, and North America. Although the Arctic Ocean is the smallest in the world. However, it is five times bigger than the biggest sea in the world, which is the Mediterranean Sea. Being the coldest out of the five oceans, it remains covered with ice. The three kinds of ice you will find here are; polar ice, pack ice, and fast ice.

The ocean’s depth is 18,210 ft deep, at the deepest point. The average depth of the ocean is 2,406 ft below sea level. The mean volume of the ocean is around 5.5 million cubic miles. Several bays, straits, and seas are a part of the Arctic Ocean. These include the Barents Sea, Beaufort Sea, Norwegian Sea, Greenland Sea, Chukchi Sea, Iceland Sea, East Siberia Sea, Hudson Bay, and Baffin Bay. The Arctic Ocean is connected to the Pacific Ocean by the Bering Strait.
