Answer: Ramsar site is defined as a wetland which is a home to a lot of species of plants and animals and it has a higher international importance because of its wide biological diversity. These wetlands are considered of international importance. The production of these wetlands is guided by Ramsar Convention. This is also known as “The convention of Wetlands”; which is an international treaty brought upon by UNESCO in 1971.
There are 46 Rsar sites which are being recognised in India under the same Ramsar Convention. The first Ramsar site in India is the Chilika Lake in Odisha and The Keoladeo National Park in Rajasthan. The international treaty takes care of these wetlands which hold soo much biodiversity.
