Where is Sundarban Delta located?

Sundarban Delta is located in the Ganges River Delta in Bangladesh. Sundarban is a large tract of land in the Ganges River delta in Bangladesh and India, crisscrossed by hundreds of rivers and streams. The Sundarbans is a vast forest lying at the mouth of the Ganges river on the Bay of Bengal. It is spread over 10,000 sq km, of which about 4,000 sq km is in Bangladesh and the rest in India. The Sundarbans are the largest remaining tracts of halophytic (salt-tolerant) mangrove forests globally.

The Sundarbans has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Sundarban can be translated as “Beautiful Forest” or “Beautiful Jungle”. The Sundarbans is home to a large variety of plant and animal life. It is estimated that there are 200 species of plants, 75 species of mammals, 35 species of reptiles and 300 species of birds in the Sundarbans.

The Royal Bengal Tiger is the most famous inhabitant of the Sundarbans. The Sunderban Delta is a unique ecosystem which supports a diversity of plant and animal life. The Sundarbans are one of the few remaining habitats for the Bengal tiger. It is also home to many other animals, including the chital or spotted deer, barking deer, wild boar, rhesus macaque, Gangetic dolphin, and various snakes, lizards and frogs. The Sunderban Delta is also a haven for many birds, including the kingfisher, heron, egret, kite, parrot, myna, and nightingale. The Sunderban Delta is a unique ecosystem which supports a diversity of plant and animal life.
