What is vertical power-sharing?

Answer: When power is shared among governments operating at various levels, such as the national, the provincial, and the regional levels, vertical distribution of power takes place. When people talk about the “federal government,” they are referring to the government that oversees the entire nation.

Vertical power-sharing refers to the process wherein power is shared between governments that are located at different levels. This occurs in India. The government that oversees the entirety of the nation is referred to as the Central or Union government. The governments that rule at the regional level are the state governments.

The constitution lays out in great detail the authorities that are held by each of the many tiers of government. Municipal governments, which are on a more local level than state governments, also have a say in the distribution of power. So this is how vertical power-sharing is done in India.
