What is the Horizontal Distribution of Power?

Answer: Horizontal distribution of power refers to that sharing of power that happens among the various organs present in the government. The power gets shared among various organs or sectors such as legislatures, the executive, and the judiciary. It is known as the horizontal distribution of power as it gives permissions to various organs of the government which are kept at the same level so that they can make use of the different types of powers assigned to them. 

Horizontal distribution of power is very helpful as it helps in separating the powers into the different organs of the government which results in inequality and it gives us a surety that no organ will get unlimited power. Every organ checks each other. This arrangement has come to be known as a system of checks and balances. 

The advantages of horizontal distribution of power are:

• The ridges or the conflicts which take place between various social groups will not happen or will become less
• It stables the political order 
• It gives the power to every organ to work together and take the decisions mutually
• It restricts the organs from taking decisions unilaterally
• The public policies will be framed by the recommendations from all the 3 organs of the government and they will not be framed by only 1 organ of the government
