Answer: Bloody Sunday was a series of events that took place on January 22, 1905, in St. Petersburg, Russia. Soldiers of the Imperial Guard fired on unarmed protesters led by Father Georgy Gapon as they marched toward the Winter Palace to give a petition to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. The Bloody Sunday Massacre is another name for Bloody Sunday.

Bloody Sunday resulted in serious repercussions for the Tsarist autocracy that ruled Imperial Russia. The events that took place in St. Petersburg sparked widespread public outrage and led to a string of massive strikes that quickly spread to the major industrial centres of the Russian Empire.
