It was established and formed on 8 December in Dhaka by signing the SAARC charter. The signing authorities of SAARC included the governments of Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, and the Maldives. SAARC is considered the regional intergovernmental organisation with the geopolitical states belonging to South Asia. Since its formation, 18 SAARC summits have been held in different locations. The last SAARC summit was held in Kathmandu, Nepal, 26-27 November 2014. The next SAARC summit was scheduled in Islamabad, Pakistan, in the year 2016 but was postponed due to political tension between India and Pakistan.
