Answer : The Palk Strait separates Sri Lanka from southern India. It is a strait between the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the Jaffna District of the northern province of Sri Lanka. It connects the Bay of Bengal in the northeast with the southwest region called Palk Bay. It is also the inlet of the Bay of Bengal, receiving several rivers, and is bounded by many geographical characteristics like the Gulf of Mannar, Adam’s Bridge (Ram Setu), and Pamban Island. The strait is named after Robert Palk, the governor of Madras (1755–1763) in the Company Raj period. Its surface area is 2,500 km and is 53–82 km wide.
