Answer: The Constitution of the Soviet Union, which is now known as the Constitution of Russia, is where the idea of fundamental duties originated. The Indian Constitution was expanded by the 42nd Amendment Act of 1976 to include ten Fundamental Duties.
After that, in 2002, the 86th Amendment Act added to the list what is now known as the 11th Fundamental Duty. The Swaran Singh Committee made its recommendation for Fundamental Duties in 1976. The need for them became apparent during the period of internal emergency that lasted from 1975 to 1977.
