Question. What is the difference between green dustbin and  blue dustbin? Why is there a need for two different dustbins?  

Answer: Before we know what the two colored dustbins are for, let us understand why there is a Need for two various colored dustbins. 

For effective waste management and to categorize the type of waste there are various colored dustbins to symbolize the categorization of waste so that the disposal of the waste is easy and non-threatening to the living. 

For instance, hospitals use yellow, green, red, and blue colored dustbins to bifurcate organic, medical/surgical waste and other toxic waste material. By having different colored trash bins it is easy for the people to differentiate waste material and suppose them accordingly. 

What is the difference between a green dustbin and a blue dustbin?

Now, coming to the most widely used colors for waste management, blue and green. Let us look at the difference between them in the following table

  1. The green dustbin signifies the color of the environment and hence is meant for the waste disposal of wet materials. Such materials/waste are biodegradable and environment-friendly. In the green dustbin, the wastes are liquid in state and decomposable. 

  1. Whereas, the blue dustbin symbolizes the waste disposal of the dry waste material. These kinds of waste are not environment friendly and possess a possible threat to the living as dry wastes cannot be decomposed.  The state of the waste is solid in the blue dustbin. 

  1. The items coming from the domestic waste such as the kitchen waste, and food remains can be disposed  in the green dustbin. 

2.   The waste material which is dry and cannot be decomposed is generally disposed of in the blue dustbins. Industrial waste, clinical waste, and others. 

  1. For ex- Fruit and Vegetable peels, hair, tea leaves, match sticks etc. 

3.    For ex- Plastic utilities, juice/milk cartons, pieces of glass, batteries, pots, paper, foil, empty paint cans, craft waste, wrappers and etc.
