What is the Rate Constant

Answer:

  • The rate constant is a constant established in order to form a steady relation between the rate of a chemical reaction and the molar concentration of the reactants.

k = r [A]a [B]b

  • Rate constant is symbolised as ‘k’.
  • Also called specific rate constant for reaction rate constant.
  • Directly proportional to temperature. Therefore, changes with change in temperature.
  • In order to calculate the rate constant, there are two ways.
  1. By Arrhenius equation

k = Ae(-Ea/RT)

2. By Molar Concentration of reactants and the order of reaction (Zero order, First order, second order, etc.).
