Answer: n- factor is defined as the number of H+ ions replaced by 1 mole of acid in a reaction.

KMnO4.

n- factor of KMnO4,

= ½×1×(+7) – 1×(+4)1/2 = 3 

In neutral medium KMnO4 forms MnO2 (+7 to +4) i.e. it gains 3 electrons. So, n- factor = 3.
