Answer:When iron is exposed to oxygen in the air, water, or water vapour, rusting takes place. Rusting is the chemical process that causes a red or orange coating to form on the surface of metals.

The chemical formula is  Fe2O3, also known as ferric oxide or iron oxide.

The chemical reaction of the process of rusting is as follows;

4Fe+3O2+6H2O4fe(OH)3

Water and oxygen are both major ractants in th e usting process.

Disadvantages of rusting:

  • Change the chemical properties of metal.

  • Lose the efficiency of metal.

  • Decrease the life time of metabolic objects.

Galvanization is the process of coating a metal with a zinc layer for protection. It is a widely used technique for protecting iron from rusting.
