What is Ionization

Answer: Ionization is defined as the process by which electrically neutral atoms or molecules are converted to electrically charged atoms or molecules by gaining or losing electrons.

When they gain electrons, they become negatively charged and when they lose electrons they become positively charged. And thus, these electrically charged atoms or molecules are called ions.

For example ionization of NaCl is as follows;

NaCl Na+ + Cl
