What is a Soda Acid Fire Extinguisher

Sodium bicarbonate and sulphuric acid are used in soda-acid fire extinguishers. It is the most powerful fire extinguisher for use in the home. It consists of a strong iron vessel with a discharge nozzle on the side. The iron vessel is filled with a sodium bicarbonate solution.

Working

Any fire extinguisher’s operation is predicated on the following three conditions:

  • the flammable substance is cooled below its ignition temperature
  • cutting off the air supply and,
  • cooling the flammable material at the same time

The following reaction takes place.
