Answer: Toothpaste is a Base, and it has an alkaline composition. As soon as we eat, the food breaks down and releases acid. We use toothpaste to brush our teeth to counteract the acidic influence in our mouths.
Therefore, the following two elements give toothpaste its basic nature: Tetra sodium pyrophosphate (TSPP), a sequestering agent, removes calcium and magnesium from the saliva so they can’t build up on teeth as tartar, an intractable deposit (calcified plaque). It serves as a water-softening agent in this regard.
