Give examples of combination reactions.

When one or more compounds, known as reactants, are converted into one or more distinct substances, known as products, a chemical reaction occurs. Substances include chemical elements and compounds. In a chemical reaction, the constituent atoms of the reactants are rearranged, resulting in the production of diverse substances as products.

The following are the five main types of chemical reactions:

  1. Combination reaction
  2. Decomposition reaction
  3. Displacement reaction
  4. Double Displacement reaction
  5. Precipitation Reaction

A direct combination reaction (sometimes referred to as a synthesis reaction) occurs when two or more elements or compounds (reactants) combine to generate a single chemical (product). Equations of the form X+YXY are used to depict such reactions. When two or more components are joined to form a single product, it is called a combination reaction. To put it another way, a chemical reaction is called a combination reaction when two or more atoms or compounds react to form a single component.

a) Between elements- Carbon dioxide is produced when carbon is entirely burned in oxygen.

C+O2CO2

b) Between compounds- Calcium hydroxide (lime) is formed when calcium oxide (lime) is mixed with water (slaked lime)

CaO +H2OCaOH2

c) Between elements and compounds- Carbon monoxide and oxygen combine to generate carbon dioxide.

2CO +O2→2CO2 .
