Explain Dow’s Process in Inorganic Chemistry

Answer : The preparation of phenol may be done using Dow’s technology. In order to produce sodium phenoxide ion, the reactant chlorobenzene is heated along with aqueous sodium hydroxide at temperatures of 623 K and at a pressure of 300 atm. Then, in the next stage, the sodium phenoxide ion is treated with dilute hydrochloric acid, which results in the production of phenol as the end product.
