Calculate the Molar Mass of Acetone

Answer : The chemical formula of acetone =CH3COCH3

We will consider the molecular weight of each element composed of acetone. The acetone has Carbon (C), Oxygen(O), and Hydrogen(H). The molecular weight of these three elements is:

Carbon (C) = 12 grams

Hydrogen (H) = 16 grams

Oxygen (O) = 1 grams

The sum of mass of a single element present in the compound is known as molecular mass of the compound. Hence molecular mass of acetone is

= 12 + 1 X 3 + 12 + 16 + 12 + 1 X 3

= 12 + 3 + 12 + 16 + 12 + 3

= 36 + 6 + 1

= 58 gram/mole

Therefore, the molar mass of acetone is 58 grams/ mole.
